Former Indian cricketers Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag have dissected Pakistan cricket and what they need to do in future.
Babar Azam and Co. failed to qualify for the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024 as they only won one group game against Canada and lost two matches against the USA and India.
While talking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said Pakistan need to evaluate their shortcomings and rectify them.
"How can you lose to the USA? Pakistan need to evaluate whether the team they picked was better or not. There were so many openers in the team. No one plays with a strike rate of over 200," he said.
"I haven't seen Babar Azam or Mohammad Rizwan bat at a strike rate of over 200. The same combination has been repeated for the last three T20 World Cups and the result is also the same," he added.
Meanwhile, Zaheer suggested Pakistan have a vision for the next three years.
"Pakistan don't like to play T20 the way it has evolved. Teams look to utilise powerplay while Pakistan batters take time. The same is with the lower-order batters where there is no proper hitter.
"Pakistan need to have a vision for the next three years. First, they need to pick who will captain and if they don't back him, Pakistan will continue to stay backwards," he added.
Sehway seconded Zaheer and also slammed senior team manager Wahab Riaz and pacer Mohammad Amir, who returned to the set-up after criticising the same players on tv.
"After changes, they will have to back the captain and his team since results take time. They need to identify batters from Pakistan Super League (PSL) who can play from 4-7. It is wrong to expect openers can play in middle-order," Sehwag said.
"Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir used to criticise but now one is a selector and Amir came in playing XI. You need to view the future and do justice to the job," he added.
